ABOUT

Hackensack Theatre Company's roots trace back to January of 2004 when Hackensack resident Caseen Gaines assembled a group of his closest friends to perform in two one-act plays as a benefit for Hackensack High School's Drama Department. Despite an opening night snowstorm, the show went on and An Evening for the Arts had a successful run at the Hackensack Cultural Arts Center. When the curtains closed for the final time, audience members were asking where they could find out information about his next show.

In September of 2004, where under the name of Case on Stage, Gaines directed Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues with Felicia Benson-Kraft of Maywood, NJ - who also performed in An Evening for the Arts as producer. The show, held at the Paramus Picture Show of Paramus, which is no longer open, was another success story.

In early 2005, Gaines and Benson-Kraft decided to change the name of their group for a final time to Hackensack Theatre Company. HTC had its formal debut in September of 2005 with the cult classic The Rocky Horror Show, back where it all began -- the Hackensack Cultural Arts Center.

Hackensack Theatre Company has produced several musicals and dramas, as well as talent showcases, rock concerts, and, of course, live theater. They are a proud member of NJACT and have been nominated for several Perry Awards. HTC's performances have played to thousands in New York metropolitan area and raised thousands of dollars for various charities including Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Shelter-Our-Sisters.
